Shanghai Avaxa Trading Co., Ltd. belongs to the NLMK Group, the largest Russian manufacturer of steel and rolled products with domestic facilities in Russia, the EU, and the US.
Shanghai Avaxa Trading Co., Ltd. manages export supplies of steel products, including hot-rolled, cold-rolled, galvanized, pre-painted and electrical steel.
Shanghai Avaxa Trading Co., Ltd. also manages the procurement of goods and spare parts for the industrial facilities located in Russia.
The role envisages a wide range of responsibilities and the position would entail dealing with day-to-day matters under the supervision of the General Counsel EMEA & APAC.
- Provides all-round legal support and advice on legal and compliance matters concerning all aspects of the physical trading and shipping operations of commodities, contentious and non-contentious;
- Drafts legal documents, including but not limited to the domestic and international sale and purchase contracts;
- Handles litigation;
- Communication with external counsels;
- Legal analysis of customer’s claims, claim protocols, surveyor reports, and other documents supporting the claims;
- Responsible for the organization and coordination of all decision-making processes in the company, signing procedures, and should be the first point of contact and be able to advise on how documents are to be signed;
- Ensures compliance with the internal controls, statutory regulations, and other formalities;
- Manages and monitors new customer/supplier onboarding process and assists the front office with pre-checks;
- Recognizes and manages updates to applicable policies and procedures, including monitoring of current and future regulations and industry trends;
- Keeps up with the current changes in all relevant areas of law, contributing to the enhancement of knowledge within the company;
- Directs the development of training activity in both trading and compliance matters.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
· Higher education (LLB/LLM or equivalent) in law.
· Qualified lawyer admitted to practice in the PRC is a must.
· Between 5 to 8 years PQE (i.e. post qualification experience as an advocate) working either in-house or in the private practice.
· A very good understanding of corporate documentation and Chinese legal requirements as to the formalization of decisions, and retention of corporate records.
· Good communicator, team leader, and with an active attitude taking full ownership of his/her tasks and area of responsibility.
· Solution-oriented with a pragmatic approach and readiness to closely work with colleagues and stakeholders, internally and externally.
· Ability to work under pressure, prioritize, and make clear decisions.
· Very good command of English (including the ability to draft complex legal provisions); Russian is an asset.
